Chicago Reconnaissance Imperative

The Chicago Reconnaissance Imperative New Play Series invites Chicago-area playwrights to workshop in-development scripts at no cost. Each playwright-submitted work accepted into the reading series will receive a reading, notes from our literary manager, and consideration in The Agency’s upcoming season.

Your play reading can be anything from a simple, closed reading to a workshop; whatever you think the play will benefit from most and your level of involvement. If handled solely by The Agency we will find a space and actors for an unrehearsed reading. If you want to do a more involved reading or workshop you will be in charge of setting rehearsals, finding a director, and running the workshop. If this is the route you wish to take The Agency will still provide a space for the reading or workshop and will be happy to help with suggestions for actors and directors we think might fit the script.

To apply, send an e-mail to brian @ with the subject line “CHICAGO RECONNAISSANCE IMPERATIVE NEW PLAY SERIES” along with the following information:

  • A short synopsis.
  • A paragraph on what type of reading you are interested in and what you hope to gain from the experience.
  • A 10 page sample of your script.

Upon acceptance into the reading series playwrights will be contacted by the literary manager with a projected date for the reading and a request for a full script.

We look forward to reading your work!
